Special Issue Proposals

Guidelines for a special issue proposal

Please include in your proposal:

  • A working title for the special issue
  • A succinct (max 500 words) draft call for paper that includes the aims of the special issue and how it will further the field and the aims of the journal. It’s a good idea to have looked at previous issues of the journal ensure that your proposal topic does not duplicate or overlap with these.
  • A summary of the scope of the proposed issue, explaining what kind of studies you are hoping to attract.
  • A list topics that you might/would expect to receive submissions on. The topics should reflect particular areas of scholarship within the scope of the SI.
  • By submitting your proposal is it assumed that you will act as a lead Guest Editor. Please also propose a Co-or Second Guest Editor. This second editor should be someone who has already agreed to act in this capacity should your proposal be accepted. Ideally your second editor should be someone from a different institution to your own.
  • A draft, realistic timescale for Call for Papers, submissions, submission reviews and amendments, and final publication of the issue.

Procedure for approval of proposals:

The journal’s Editorial Board will meet to discuss your proposal and reply to you within 4 weeks. The decision will be either:

  • Accept without changes
  • Request for changes (major or minor) and then resubmission of proposal.
