Submission Guidelines

Please refer to the following three documents before making your journal submission:

 

Additional information:

Submissions can be presented in a range of formats including multimedia for any of the three sections (articles, reviews and scholarbits), including text, video, image, audio or any combination of the above. References are not included in the word limits indicated below.

Submissions in languages other than English

Submissions may be in any language, but a summary of at least 250-300 words in English must accompany the submission. You may choose to extend this and include a richer summaryˑ an accompanying video or a full translation of your submission. In some languages, we may, on request, be able to provide a student-translation of your article. This would only be published with full approval of the author(s).

Guidelines for Papers

  • Written submissions can be of variable lengths but should not exceed 7000 words per item.
  • Submissions should be presented in a form ready for publication (MS WORD or equivalent) and sent as an email attachment to the Editorial Team (languagescholar@leeds.ac.uk).
  • In a cover sheet please provide:
    • Five keywords for indexing and tagging
    • A 250-300 word abstract in the language of the article
    • You are welcome to suggest up to 4 potential reviewers for our blind peer-review process

Guidelines for Videos

  • Please use the Mediasite platform https://mymedia.leeds.ac.uk and email the link only. Remember to set the file for public viewing. Any issues with this, please get in touch with the Editorial Team.
  • Attach a document with the following information:
    • Five keywords for tagging
    • A 250-300 word summary of the video in the language of the video
  • Full references must be included, either as an accompanying MS Word document or within the video. Please see Style guidelines

Other Formats (posters, mind maps, interviews…)

Guidelines for Reviews (Books, Software, Conferences, etc.)

  • Reviews should not exceed 1500 words per item.
  • Submissions should be presented in a form ready for publication (MS Word or equivalent) and sent as an email attachment to the Editorial Team (languagescholar@leeds.ac.uk).
  • In a cover sheet please provide:
    • Five keywords for indexing and tagging
  • At the top of the second page, include the following information:
    • Title of book/ software/ conference/ etc.
    • Subtitle (if any)
    • Author / Editor / Translator / Illustrator / Photographer
    • Publisher / price / 13-digit ISBN
    • The year the book/ software was published or the date and place the conference took place
    • The number of pages in the book, if applicable

Deadlines

Contributions may be submitted at any time. However deadlines may be announced for specific issues in our call for contributions.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

  1. Permission to reproduce any copyrighted material in both print and electronic media should be obtained and appropriate acknowledgements should be included in their manuscript.
  2. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.
  3. The work will be simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (typically BY-NC-SA) that will allow others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work’s authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  4. Authors will still be able to publish their work elsewhere with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
  5. If the article is subsequently reprinted in another publication, The Language Scholar should be given acknowledgement, indicating the date when the article was published.
